Adventure, Leadership, and Service Start Here.
We Build Leaders—One Cadet at a Time.
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a youth leadership and development program that helps young people build confidence, discipline, and character through hands-on training with a naval and public service focus. The Polaris Battalion, based in Cambridge, Minnesota, serves youth ages 10–18 across northern Minnesota and centers its training around Seabee-style construction, engineering, and skilled trades.
Polaris cadets learn by doing—building, designing, and problem-solving through real-world projects that develop teamwork, leadership, and technical ability. Drills are held one weekend each month at the Cambridge Armory, where cadets participate in hands-on construction exercises, engineering challenges, and leadership training.
Prospective cadets are encouraged to visit and shadow for a drill weekend to see what the program is like. Families can tour the facility, meet the staff, and learn how the Sea Cadets blend structure, service, and skill-building into an unforgettable experience.
There are two levels within our program:
- Navy League Cadets (ages 10–14) train aboard Training Ship Trident, focusing on teamwork, citizenship, and foundational skills.
- Sea Cadets (ages 14–18) take on greater responsibility, participate in advanced hands-on construction and engineering training, and can attend specialized national trainings across the country.
Cadets must maintain at least 75% attendance and complete a Physical Readiness Test (PRT) twice a year. The PRT ensures cadets are ready for the physical challenges of construction work, field activities, and advanced training opportunities.
If you’re ready to build skills, serve your community, and lead by example, join us for a drill weekend and see what the Polaris Battalion is all about.
